Frost Bite Paddle

Get in my first cold water roll today. It feel invigorating.

The roll was done at the end of a short paddle that our club have at the beginning of of each year, Frostbite Regatta. As far as I remember, no one ever have frostbite on one of our event in the time I was with the club. It more of a general meeting, pot luck party, and for the few brave or foolish souls a 2 hours paddle.

I get a chance to test out my rudder, need a bit of effort to make the rudder turn left but otherwise good enough. Our plan was to paddle around Ruffle Bar, around it and around the north end of Canarsie Pol. The trip to Ruffle Bar was called of because lightnings were sighted so we have to stay close to land. Instead we went around Canarsie Pol. We get get around the north end of the Island, the wind die down completely and the sun come out. A perfect time for pictures and showing off our rolls. The group, excluding me and Pete did a choreographed roll. Very impressive. I finally get up the courage to do one roll. I was very happy when I surface without the shocking feeling of water running down my back.

After everyone get enough of rolling we paddle back to the club for the planned general meeting and pot luck party. All together a very good way to spend the first day of the new year.
